There’s a lot of skills will be used in Chinese document translation, this time we will show you some typical vocabularies with example sentences. We hope that will help with some non-native Chinese learner.
I. eye-popping 令人瞠目結舌的
Example:
Back in 1972, $1 million was still an eye-popping amount of cash.
Translation: 早在1972年，一百萬美金仍然是令人咋舌的一大筆錢。
II．enterprising：有事業心的，有進取心的。
III．charge：charge (some money) for sth. （為某物）開價…，收費。
IV．exquisite：精緻的，精美的。
V. acknowledged：公認的。
Example：
But to Robert Hecht, an enterprising American antiquities dealer living in Pari, it was not too much to charge the Metropolitan Museum of Art for an exquisite Greek vase created 500 years before the birth of Christ and painted by one of the acknowledged masters of the craft.
Translation：
然而對羅伯特•海克特來說，為了一個精緻的古希臘花瓶向大都會博物館要價一百萬並不為過。住在巴黎的他是個很有進取心的美國古董商，而他所出售的這個花瓶不僅創作於西元前500年，而且是由一位舉世公認的手工藝大師繪製而成的。
VI．acquisition：獲得，取得。It’s will be more reasonable to translate this word into “收購，購買” based on the context.
VII．shoot skyward：with the original meaning of “向天空發射” will be translated into “飆升、大幅上漲” according to the context.
Example：
Since the acquisition of the Greek vase, the prices of antiquities have shot skyward.
自從大都會博物館收購了這個古希臘花瓶之後，古董的價格一路飆升。
VIII．burgeon：生長發芽（並繁茂）。Its present participial is commonly used, indicating “興盛、旺盛”.
IX．traffic：交通、運輸；貿易。This word should be translated into “貿易” According to the aforementioned “古董價格飆升”.
X．provenance：出處，來源。
XI．i.e.：<Latin>=id est，abbreviation for “that is to say” which means”即”. This word is applied to show an explanation, implementation or demonstration of the above-mentioned text.
Example：
The problem with the burgeoning traffic in antiquities, however, is not so much the price but something far more significant: the provenance, i.e. where are these precious artifacts coming from? And who are their rightful owners?
自此，古董交易變得異常興盛。然而，價格猛然上漲並非其中主要的問題，更重要的問題在於這些古董的來源。也就是說，這些珍貴的手工藝品來自何處？以及誰是它們合法的擁有者？
XII．unearth：發掘，挖掘
Example：
Evidence is increasing that more and more artifacts are being illegally unearthed from their countries of origin.
Translation：
越來越多的證據表明，更多的古董正從其原產國被非法挖掘出來。
i. envy：嫉妒、羡慕（形容詞envious）
ii. go in for：參加、追求、從事
Example：
Americans do not go in for envy.
美國人並非善妒之輩。
iii. fret：煩惱，焦慮
Example：
Whereas Europeans fret about the way the economic pie is divided, Americans want to join the rich, not soak them.
歐洲人往往會很在意利益是如何分配的，而美國人卻只想成為富人，而並不想從他們那裡分一杯羹。
v. consensus：一致同意，多數人的意見，輿論
vi. redistribution：再分配（動詞redistribute）
vii. in keeping with：符合，與…一致
viii. adage：格言，諺語
Example：
The political consensus, therefore, has sought to pursue economic growth rather than the redistribution of income, in keeping with John Kennedy’s adage that "a rising tide lifts all boats."
因此，人們在政治上達成共識，認為與其追求收入的再分配，倒不如追求經濟的整體增長，這恰恰符合約翰.甘迺迪的一句名言：“一潮漲則百船升。”
ix.productivity：生產力
x.outpace：超過……的速度，趕超
Example：
Thanks to a jump in productivity growth after 1995, America’s Translation：
由於美國的生產力在1995年之後急劇上升，其經濟整整十年來都領先於世界其他發達國家。
xi. boom：繁榮；昌隆
xii. inflation：通貨膨脹
Example：
In the late 1990s everybody shared in this boom. Though incomes were rising fastest at the top, all workers’ wages far outpaced inflation.
Interpretation：
上世紀90年代末經濟十分繁榮，人人都從中獲益無窮。雖然高收入人群的薪水上漲得最快，但是所有工人的工資都比通貨膨脹時期多了很多。
